Abstract
1,169,333. Friction clutches. DANA CORP. 20 Feb., 1968 [6 April, 1967], No. 8290/68. Heading F2C. In order to compensate for wear and to reduce the force needed to disengage a friction clutch, engaging springs 88 act on the pressure plate 32 by way of pivoted links 70 and the clutch throwout levers 40, the angle between the links 70 and levers 40 decreasing as the clutch is disengaged to decrease the force exerted by the springs despite their increasing compression. The springs react against a bracket 18 fast with a flywheel 12 and urge a floating ring 76 rightwardly. The outer end of each link 70 is pivotally engaged in a slot 82 in the ring 76, and the inner end of the link has a slot 72 pivotally engaged by a tab 68 on the lever 40. The lever 40 is pivoted at 42 to the bracket 18 and its outer end 51 abuts an adjustable screw 54 on the pressure plate. Anti-rattle springs 56 retain the levers against the screws. The inner ends of the levers are engaged by the usual throw-out bearing (not shown).
