Abstract
1,197,320. Clutch control. SOC. ANON. FRANCAISE DU FERODO. 15 Nov., 1967 [17 Nov., 1966], No. 52038/67. Heading F2L. To stabilize clutch control by compensating for a negative rate characteristic of the diaphragm spring 16 of a diaphragm spring friction clutch during the final part of the declutching stroke of its thrust-bearing 21, the piston 26 of an hydraulic slave cylinder 27 effecting clutch disengagement, through a rod 28, a lever 22 and said thrust bearing, is arranged to act also on a compensating return spring which reacts on a fixed abutment and is such that the declutching force at 26 continuously increases throughout thrust bearing declutching stroke. As shown, the spring comprises a straight coil spring 29 surrounding the rod 28 and bearing on a screwed-in cylinder end plug 30. The spring is ineffective during a first part of the declutching stroke, due to a clearance J between the spring and the piston in the clutch-engaged condition, but is progressively compressed during a second part of the declutching stroke. An additional return spring, of small force, provides return action throughout the entire stroke. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the spring 29 is replaced by a conical coil spring which is effective throughout the entire declutching stroke.
