Abstract

1,168,905. Knitting-machines. K. I. J. ROSEN. 1 May, 1967 [22 March, 1967], No. 20142/67. Heading D1C. A device for feeding and storing yarn fed from a bobbin 2 to the needles of a knitting machine so as to maintain the supply of yarn at an even rate comprises a cylindrical body 10 constituted by being the rotor of an electric motor and which is periodically driven by energization of the stator 16 to cause it to rotate and wind yarn from the bobbin about its cylindrical surface. The upper end of the body 10 is slotted and houses a disc 14 having arms 15 which project through the slots of and out beyond the body 10, the disc being mounted on a pivot 19 and deflected downwardly by a micro-switch 18 in the circuit of the motor so as to engage the yarn as it is wound about the body. The yarn also engages a ring 20 mounted on a rail 19<SP>1</SP> on the bottom of the body to guide the yarn as it is withdrawn from the body and fed to the needles of the machine. When the body is rotated the yarn gradually builds up until it causes the disc 14 to tilt against the micro-switch causing it to break the supply to the motor and the rotation of the body to stop. Continued feeding of the yarn causes the number of turns on the body to become depleted until the micro-switch pushes the disc downwardly tilting it and simultaneously pushing the remaining turns of yarn about the body downwardly along its surface until the switch is again closed and the body again caused to rotate and replenish its supply of yarn about its surface. A tensioner 6 and a stop motion 7 are provided to engage the yarn on its path to the device.
