Abstract
1,166,814. Reservoir pens. GNTHER WAGNER PELIKAN-WERKE. 16 Sept., 1966 [16 Sept., 1965], No. 41516/66. Heading B6P. In reservoir pens including a cleaning wire 24 attached to a piston 23, the piston moves in a chamber 32 substantially free of ink, and the ink flows to the point outside the chamber 32. The chamber 32 is formed by a tube 7 closed at its inner end by a block 22 attached to one part 4 of a two-part member 4, 5. Ink can flow from a reservoir 6 into a capillary space 20 between the tube 7 and parts 4, 5 by way of passages in the periphery of the block 22. At its forward end the tube 7 has an opening 25 filled by the wire 24 to prevent ink entering the chamber 32. The opening 25 is formed in a conical part seating on a similarly-shaped part of member 5 with capillary passages in between to permit ink to pass from the space 20 to a relatively-large opening 26 in the member 5 and thence to the tubular nib 27. The nib 27 is carried by a part 28 detachably connected to member 5. In the rearward position of the piston 23, the end of the wire 24 does not project beyond the end of opening 26 thus preventing damage to the wire if the parts 27, 28 are replaced. A shoulder 2 on the front section 1 of the barrel engages a shoulder 19 on the member 5 to hold the parts in place. The space 18 between the parts 1, 4, 5 is open to atmosphere through a passage 16 and interconnected annular grooves 14, 15 in the member 5. At its inner end member 4 has a flange 9 with an eccentric annular groove 10. The groove 10 is connected with the reservoir 6 by means of a groove 12 parallel to the axis and with the space 18 by a diametrically opposite groove 13. Air can thus pass into the reservoir from space 18 via passages 10, 12, 14. The space 18 also forms an overflow reservoir if an expansion in the reservoir causes ink to be forced out of the reservoir 6. A capillary groove 29, Fig. 2 (not shown), is provided at each side of the groove 12 to allow ink to pass if the groove 12 is blocked by an air bubble. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 784,388.
