[Also in Division B6] A cartridge fountain pen with a writing point, e.g. a tubular nib or a felt tip, situated on the axis of the pen, has a point section 1 with a partition 3b having a passage 3a for ink and separating a chamber 14 for the cartridge from ink feed and air channels in the point section, and a tube 3 extends towards the writing point from the partition and forms in conjunction with a needle carrying pin 4 (or a felt tip 307, Fig. 14), an air supply and ink out-flow channel 13. One or more air openings 12 in the point end of the tube 3 communicate with an annular chamber 11 connected by openings 10 with another annular chamber 9 connected with atmosphere by openings 8 situated between the point-holding part 1a of the point section and the main part of the section 1. A tube 2 is mounted between the parts 1, 3, to form the chambers 9, 11. A shoulder 15 at the inner end of the part 1a forms an abutment for the open end of a closure cap. Ink can pass from the cartridge to the point via the channel 13 and air can pass into the pen via the passages 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13. Excess ink can pass through the opening 12 into the chamber 11 and, if the pen is inverted, can collect in a space 11a A groove 4b in the pin 4 which opens into the channel 13 and may extend the full length of the pin, prevents blockage of the ink supply by the entering air. The pin 4 has a reduced part 4a which enters the passage 3a between the cartridge chamber 14 and the tube 3, so that axial movement of the pin keeps the passage clear. A substantially identical arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), may be used in a felt-tip pen. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 14, which as shown is associated with a felt writing tip 307, but may be used with a tubular writing point, the point-holding part 302a is separate from point section 301. A tubular extension 302 of the part 302a is situated between the section 301 and an inner tube 303 to form chambers 309, 311 corresponding to the chambers 9, 11 of the first embodiment, with holes 308 opening to atmosphere and holes 310 in the extension 302 to connect the chambers 309, 311. The tube 303 has openings 312 at its point end and the tip 307 extends nearly the length of the tube with a surrounding space 313 forming the air supply and ink outlet channel. The passage 313a between the cartridge chamber 314 and the ink channel 313 has a cross-shaped section. In this construction, the openings 312 are nearer the writing point than the openings 308. Air passes to the chamber 314 via passages 308 ... 313, ink flows to the point along passages 313a, 313 and excess ink enters chamber 311 through openings 312. The upper end of the chamber 311 is enlarged at 311a to accommodate a greater quantity of ink. If a tubular point is employed in the arrangement (Fig. 9, not shown), a pin carrying the point needle is accommodated in the tube 303 with sufficient clearance to provide the chamber 313.
