Abstract
1,166,466. Jointing by rolling; making composite sheets. OLIN MATHIESON CHEMICAL CORP. 28 Oct., 1966, No. 6768/69. Divided out of 1,166,465. Headings B3A and B3M. An integral composite article, formed by roll bonding together a core and a cladding, has an interface free from atomic interdiffusion, and a surface contact area 10% greater than planar sheets of the same projected area, one component of the article having at least 25% equiaxed grains and the other having grains elongated in the rolling direction. The core can be copper, lead, tin, zinc, aluminium, or a base alloy of one of these. The cladding can be a base alloy of copper, lead, tin, nickel, zinc, titanium, iron, silver, or aluminium. In a preferred example the composite has a core of commercial purity copper clad on each side with 75: 25 cupro-nickel.
