Abstract
1,209,695. Coating with aluminium alloys by hot dipping. OLIN CORP. May 21, 1968, No.24150/68. Heading C7F. Metal articles such as Cu or Fe base wire, sheet or strip are coated with Al or an Al based alloy by first coating with a material containing a hydride of Zr, Ca, Mg, Li, Ti, Hf, Nb, Ta, Th, U, Y, Li-Al or NaBH4, KBH4, PbBH4 or CsBH4 which decomposes at 150‹ -950‹ C. and then hot dipping in the molten Al or Al alloy. The hydride is applied to the cleaned substrate as a slurry in isopropyl alcohol and then dried. The substrates may be mild steel, high carbon steel or stainless or brass and the Al alloys may contain Si, Cr, Mo, W, B.
