[Also in Division H4] In an analogue-to-digital converter the difference between an unknown voltage and a feedback voltage whose amplitude corresponds to the count in a counter is applied to upper and lower threshold circuits and each time the level of either is exceeded the counter is stepped in a corresponding direction whereby the count registered follows the unknown input voltage.
