Abstract
1,164,712. Oxidation of isobutane. ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO. 6 Sept., 1967 [10 Oct., 1966], No. 40838/67. Heading C2C. A process for the liquid phase oxidation of isobutane comprises reacting isobutane with oxygen at temperatures of from 200‹ to 300‹ F. and pressures in excess of 300 p.s.i.g. to produce t.-butyl alcohol and t.-butyl hydroperoxide, in which there is present in the isobutane at least 0À2% by weight of isobutane of isopropyl alcohol or isobutyl alcohol or see.-butyl alcohol. Preferred temperatures and pressures are 265- 295‹ F. and 400-700 p.s.i.g., respectively, and the reaction is preferably carried out in the absence of catalyst.
