1363848 Preparation of alkane sulphonates UNILEVER Ltd 11 Oct 1971 [14 Oct 1970] 48860/70 Heading C2C Alkane sulphonates are prepared by reacting an olefin having 8-20 carbon atoms with a bisulphite species in a liquid medium at a substantially constant pH in the presence of an initiator not containing free molecular oxygen, and intimately contacting a gas containing free molecular oxygen with the reactants not earlier than the point in the reaction when 90% of the stoichoimetric amount of bisulphite has been consumed by addition to the olefinic bonds.
