Abstract

1,164,605. Spring wheels. J. D. W. GREGG. 28 June, 1967 [29 June, 1966], No. 29168/66. Heading B7C. A spring wheel comprises a hub 6 with fixed collar 7 and collar 5 slidable on the hub, the collars being connected to a segmented or corrugated rim by arms 9 whereby flexing of the rim causes collar 5 to move against spring 1. The rim is fixed to a tyre 3 radially slotted to enable it to flex with the rim. The arms may extend radially or at an angle to the radial. In a modification, collar 7 slides on splines on the hub and collar 5 engages helical cam slots so that the angular movement made by hub 5 as it moves axially opposes changes in wheel diameter.
