Abstract

1,163,769. Universal joints. E. NETZSCH, [trading as NETZSCH MASCHINENFABRIKEN, GEB.]. 1 Nov., 1966, No. 49009/66. Heading F2U. In a universal joint for connecting a driving shaft b<SP>1</SP> to the rotor h<SP>1</SP> of a worm pump wherein teeth on a spherical hub d<SP>1</SP> fast with the driving shaft b<SP>1</SP> interengage with teeth on a ring f<SP>1</SP> keyed at l<SP>1</SP> to the pump rotor h<SP>1</SP> and housed within a sleeve e<SP>l</SP>. As shown part-spherical rings c<SP>1</SP> centre the hub d<SP>1</SP> and transmit axial thrusts. The hub d<SP>1</SP> is splined on the shaft b<SP>1</SP>. The teeth on the hub and ring may have convex flanks. The joint is sealed by a flexible cover q<SP>1</SP>. In Fig. 3 (not shown) a pin (15) fast with the ring (5) passes through a sleeved hole (17) in the hub (2) and transmits axial thrusts. The pin and sleeve are shaped to allow universal movement between the hub (2) and ring (5). The hub (2) is keyed to the driving shaft (1) and secured against axial movement relative thereto by screws (3).
