Abstract
1,160,858. Waveguide directional couplers. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 24 April, 1968 [27 April, 1967], No. 19273/68. Heading H1W. A directional coupler comprises two rows of substantially T-shaped coupling apertures in the common broad wall 5 of two rectangular waveguides 1, 2. The extreme members of each row, e.g. the apertures 10, 11, 12, may be graded in size. The cross-piece of the T is preferable equal in length to the stem (including overlapping parts) and the dimension ratio B/L is not less than 0À3 (preferably 0À54). At the mean frequency of operation, the distance b between the apertures is equal to a quarterwavelength. The coupler is made by interposing a very thin apertured sheet 5 between two U-section members 1, 2. The sheet is reinforced at its end by a ship 3 and to compensate for the impedance mismatch caused by the strip, the narrow dimension of the waveguide is increased in the region occupied by the strip.
