1,160,689. Mowing machines. P. S. HAST. 6 Dec., 1966 [10 Dec., 1965], No. 54472/66. Heading A1F. In a vegetation-cutter having relatively reciprocable blades 1, 2, the teeth 3 of the moving blade 1 project beyond the teeth 4 of the fixed blade 2 and both sets of teeth increase in width towards their free ends so that stalks tend to become trapped by the blades during cutting. The fixed blade is double and comprises two identical blades 7, 8 spaced apart by a bar 10 slightly wider than the moving blade 1 which freely slides between the fixed blades. The recesses 5 between the teeth 3 are arcuate and larger than a semi-circle. The recesses 9 between the fixed teeth are of the same maximum width as those between the moving teeth but are shallower. The moving teeth have chamfered edges adjacent to the recesses 5. In a modification, the forward edges of the teeth 3 are rounded to avoid danger from the sharp cusps on the teeth 3.
