A tundish is divided into inlet and outlet zones by a wall 11 having a V-shaped passage 14 of flattened cross-section through the wall so that molten metal flows from the inlet zone to the outlet 13. The form of the passage ensures that non-metallic inclusions rise from the passage to be entrapped in the slag layers 15.
