Abstract

1,159,640. Covers for screws. BRITISH SCREW CO. Ltd. 27 April, 1968, No. 20080/68. Addition to 953,009. Heading F2H. A screw has a head 11, a flange 12, a cover 15 of synthetic plastics material moulded about the head and a skirt 23, the skirt being adapted to be pressed by the flange against the surface surrounding a hole in which the screw is received to provide a watertight seal between the flange and the surface. The cover is formed with projections 21 separated by troughs 22 for engagement by a tool. The skirt 23 is made of rubber or synthetic plastics material and may be formed integrally with the cover. The surface 16 of the head is frusto-conical to prevent the cover from being forced off the head by the skirt when the screw is tightened. V-shaped grooves 13 in the head assist in keying the cover to the head and the shank 10 is formed with a self tapping thread.
