Abstract
1,159,567. Nb-Zr alloys. VACUUM - SCHMELZE G.m.b.H. Oct.13, 1966 [Oct. 23, 1965], No.45754/66. Heading C7A. A non-magnetic spring or other non-magnetic mechanical oscillatory element, the modulus of elasticity and natural frequency of which are independent over a temperature range of at least 100‹ C. including room temperature, is made by cold-working a Nb-Zr alloy containing 15-35% by weight of Zr to a reduction of at least 90% and subsequently annealing the cold-worked alloy at not more than 600‹ C. for at least 2¢ hrs. under a vacuum of better than 10<SP>-4</SP>mm. Hg. The alloy may be annealed in stages first at 400‹ C., then at 500‹ C., and finally at 600‹ C. It may be packed in Ti foil during annealing.
