[Also in Division D1] An aerosol composition for use in the treatment of garments and other fabrics to impart water-repellency thereto comprises a dispersion of a hydrophobic powder of colloidal dimensions in a liquid carrier, the composition including a pressure generating propellant. The hydrophobic powder may be silica, calcium silicate, alumina or clay, treated with a long-chain polar compound, a silane, a chromium co-ordination compound of a higher saturated fatty acid or of a saturated perfluoromonocarboxylic acid or a fluorocarbon. The propellant may be nitrogen, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, n-butane, isobutane, or a chlorofluorinated alkane. The compositions may also include methyl chloroform and bacterioides e.g. hexachlorophene or bithionol.
