Abstract
1,159,118. Pouring spouts for molten metal. STOECKER & KUNZ G.m.b.H. 2 Aug., 1966 [4 Aug., 1965], No. 34690/66. Heading F4B. A spout for casting molten metals comprises a funnel-shaped inlet portion 1 formed with a tapering inlet passage 2 of circular crosssection and diminishing diameter, and an intermediate traverse portion 3 integral with the inlet portion 1, which has a cylindrical central passage 4, in the walls of which are formed four axially parallel grooves 5, forming a cruciform slit cross-section with an enlarged central portion. The outlet portion 6 of the spout is formed with a cylindrical or conical passage communicating coaxially with the traverse passage 3, the diameter of the outlet passage at its end adjacent to the traverse passage being less than the width from edge to edge of the slit or each slit of the traverse passage. In both the upper transition zone 10 and the lower transition zone 11 there is a conically tapering transitional passage section which eliminates turbulence from the molten metal stream. In another embodiment for a spout the intermediate traverse portion is of cruciform slit cross-section formed by an undulatory configuration of the wall of the central passage, whose minimum diameter in the intermediate traverse portion is smaller than the diameter of the cylindrical outlet passage of the outlet portion. A further embodiment has an intermediate traverse portion and a part of the inlet portion accommodated in a separate insert tube made of wear-resisting refractory material, which can be fitted into an outer sleeve portion made of heat-insulating material which contains the outlet port in which the cylindrical outlet passage is formed.
