Abstract

1,158,049. Dry shavers. GILLETTE CO. 20 June, 1967 [21 June, 1966], No. 28458/67. Heading B4B. A dry razor shearing foil is provided with particles of a solid material having a maximum grain size <SP>1</SP>/ 100 mm. embedded at least in that part of the shearing foil which is subjected to frictional forces in use. Preferably, the particles have a grain size of <SP>1</SP>/ 1000 mm. The particles may comprise a solid lubricant e.g. molybdenum sulphide. Alternatively, the particles may comprise abrasive and/or polishing media or comprise a plastics material, aluminium oxide, boron carbide or silicon carbide. The foil may be manufactured electrolytically and the particles added to the bath. In an example, particles 2 of aluminium oxide are embedded in the surface of a nickel foil 1 of an electric shaver. Particles 3 also of aluminium oxide are distributed throughout the material of the foil.
