The blades may be of scalene or equilateral triangular form or have two curved sides of ogival, Fig. 9, or plain convex and concave shape, Fig. 8, (not shown). The sides may be notched, Fig. 7. The known trapezoidal shaped blades may be used. In one handle form, Fig. 1, a part 2 slides within a sheath 1 so as to wedge two sides of a blade 3 at opposite ends of the front opening 4 of the sheath, when the blade is exposed. The third blade side abuts an edge 6. A projection 8 in the sheath engages a recess in the part 2 to hold the parts engaged. To stow the blade, the parts are partially disengaged and the blade allowed to fall back into a rebate 9 in the part 2. The parts are then re-engaged. In another embodiment, Fig. 11, the sheath is replaced by a channel shaped portion 20 of a handle part 20B, a resilient sheet metal cover 24 fulfilling the function of the part 2. A recess 23 is provided for spare blades and may be fitted with a resilient pad. The recess and pad may be of such size and material respectively as to enable the knife to float. A projection 22A, Fig. 17, may be provided in the channel enabling a triangular blade 3A to fall back with a rotary motion when released and to be advanced with a different edge in the cutting position when the parts are re-engaged. In another form, Fig. 15 (not shown), the blade may be located by wedging its side faces between opposed convergent faces of the handle parts.
