Abstract

A spray producer device having a, nozzle 9 mounted in an actuator head 8 comprises a plastics outer receptacle 1 containing a solid or liquid material 2 to be dispensed, an inner receptadle 3 containing a liquified propellant gas, and a valve controlled by the actuator and including a high pressure obturation member 11 for the propellant and two low pressure obturation members respectively controlling the outlet of spray material and the admission of air into the receptacles, said device being designed so that the rate of escape by permeation of the propellant through the wall of the receptacle 1 is greater than the total rate of escape of the propellant from the inner receptacle 3 into the receptacle 1. Swelling or bursting of the receptacle 1 is thus obviated. The said total rate of escape is made up of .the rate of escape by permeation through the wall of receptacle 3, the rate of escape by permeation through the valve, and the rate of escape through the mechanism of the valve. For a propellant of a given type therefore, suitable materials are selected for the walls of both receptacles. The inner receptacle may be of metal or glass, which are both completely impermeable to the propellant gas, so that a wider range of plastics may be used for the receptacle 1. [Also in Division F2] Apparatus for coating the end portions of work pieces with fluid material, and particularly the ends of U-pipes 16 with adhesive for joining up adjacent straight tubes of a refrigerator system, comprises chambers 166 in a dispensing block 140 adapted to receive the ends of the pipes 16 about centering posts 170 when a yoke member 112 holding the pipes 16 by a spring clip 114 is lowered by an air-operated piston. On each operation an air operated ejector unit 172 (Fig. 7, not shown) supplies a measured quantity of adhesive to passages 143 of block 140 which passes to annular spaces 160 and through ports 168 onto the outer surface of the pipes 16 which are then withdrawn.
