Abstract

1,156,744. Pipe couplings; stopping pipes. UNIVEX PLASTICS Ltd. 29 July, 1966 [31 July, 1965], No. 34152/66. Headings F2G and F2P. A coupling sleeve of plastics material such as polypropylene and for a pipe 25 includes an 0-ring 28 which in situ is compressed between the pipe and a section 13 of the sleeve which diverges from and is co-terminous with an annular out-flared section 12, the junction of these sections forming an annular restricting throat 14. There is an inwardly converging shoulder 15, and an annular centering section 17 co-terminous with an inwardly projecting pipeabutting pleat 19<SP>1</SP> by which mis-alignment or expansion of the pipes 19, 25 is accommodated. The 0-rings are rolled into position on assembly of the sleeve and pipes and are forced toward the throats 14 by fluid pressure acting thereon. The sleeve may be applied to the closing off of a pipe end, a cap or plate being disposed in the section 17. The sleeve may constitute the actual end section or portion of a pipe.
