Apparatus for continuously checking the pull on cables in tension comprises winding drums 1, 2 on which the cables are wound, a control assembly with a main shaft 7 for transmitting a driving or braking couple to the drums through a pinion 6 coaxial with the shaft 7 a reduction gear box 14 for transmitting motion between the shaft 7 and pinion 6 and a dynamometer 16 for sensing the couple applied. The gear box 14 is rotatably mounted on the common axis X-X of the pinion 6 and shaft 7 and has a projection 15 bearing on the dynamometer 16 fixed on the framework 3 in which shafts 4, 5 support the drums 1, 2. The apparatus is for use in stringing high voltage electric power cables.
