Abstract
1,155,369. Ironing-machines. AMETEK, Inc. 14 Sept., 1966 [14 Sept., 1965], No. 41101/66. Heading DIA. An ironing-machine comprises a series of modules each having a roller 23 and a concave surface 17 the rollers being moved into contact with the surface 17 fluid pressure cylinders 34 against the action of springs 30 the pressure exerted on the rollers being decreased with their distance from the entrance end of the machine 20 that the coverings are less compressed and the peripheral speed being thus increased. The action of cylinders 34 may be reversed in order to assist lifting the rollers away from the concave surface 17 of the hot chest. The rollers are driven by chains and sprockets (not shown) and the drive also operates a feed conveyor 49. Tapes 37 surround the rollers to assist feeding sheets and a tape tensioner 42 is provided. The rollers are padded and are perforated, steam produced by ironing being drawn off through a perforated hollow shaft on which the rollers are mounted. The pressure in cylinders 34 is individually regulatable.
