A polyphase induction motor is provided with an oval stator 1 and a purely ferrous rotor 3 which is caused to roll round correspondingly oval bearings 5 to produce a reciprocating motion of load 8 through connecting rods 6. Polecharging may be employed to vary the speed of reciprocation.
