Abstract
1,153,416. Portable containers; container closures. SOC. D'ETUDES CHIMIQUES POUR L'INDUSTRIE ET L'AGRICULTURE. 21 Feb., 1968 [27 Feb., 1967], No. 8472/68. Headings B8D and B8T. A glass bottle 2, for e.g. bromine, is encased in a shell 1, e.g. of polyethylene, and surrounded by a shock-absorbent material 3. The neck of the bottle 2 is encircled by a rigid sleeve 4, the upper part 5 of which receives, by e.g. threading, a stopper 8, which has a central part 8<SP>1</SP> which remains static when an annular part 8<SP>11</SP> is screwed home. The sleeve 4 is welded to the edge of a central aperture in a plate 6, and the outer edge of the plate 6 is welded to the shell 1. A flexible washer 7 separates the sleeve from the neck of the bottle and a sealing member 9 of disc or annular form, lies between the central stopper part 8<SP>1</SP> and the washer 7. The outer shell 1, sleeve 4, plate 6 and stopper 8 may be of the same material. To discharge the bottle contents, the stopper 8 may be replaced by a stopper having an upwardly domed central part (10), Fig. 2 (not shown), an inwardly extending pipe (11) for, e.g. the introduction of water, and an outwardly extending pipe (12) for, e.g. the discharge of aqueous bromine. The bulged part (10) and the pipes (11), (12) may be of glass or polytetrafluorethylene. The pipe (11) may be partly of flexible material to reduce fragility.
