Abstract

1,152,374. Automatic temperature control systems. DE LA RUE FRIGISTOR Ltd. Oct. 17, 1967 [Oct. 24, 1966], No.47549/66. Addition to 1,014,418. Heading G3R. An isothermal thermocouple calibration apparatus of the type described in Specification 1,014,418 has at least two elongated tubes 9 joined at their closed ends by a metallic member 10 of good thermal conductivity. The member may seal the tube ends or they may be capped separately. The tubes are immersed in water or other media filling a copper chamber 5, 6 cooled by the cold junction of thermo-electric devices 11, 12 the hot junctions of which are mounted on heat sinks 13, 14. Formation of a determined volume of ice causes a bellows 21 to expand and cut-off or reverse the current to the devices through a micro-switch 19. If a low critical degree of freezing is required, the switch may be optionally shunted when the initial water temperature is too high. The bellows is arranged so that it is not fully extended when the chamber is filled with ice. The compositions of suitable materials for the tubes and chamber are given in the Specification. An outer split casing 1, 2 is partly filled with heat insulation material.
