Abstract
949,123. Thermo-electric devices. SIEMENSELECTROGERATE A.G. Jan. 4, 1962 [Jan. 6, 1961], No. 400/62. Heading H1K. A cooling unit for a refrigerator comprises thermo-electric elements 1 with metal bridges 2 combined to form a slab, pressure vessels 3 and 4 being in thermal contact with each side of the slab and being connected through pipes 6 and 7, and 10 and 11, to a heat sink 8 and a radiator 5, the slab and pressure vessels being mounted on the pipes inside an evacuated container 13. The arrangement limits conduction between the hot and cold faces of the thermocouple slab to conduction through the pipes and container walls. The pressure vessels 3 and 4 are clamped on each side of the thermocouple slab by bolts such as 12. The container 13 is of chrome-nickel steel or a plastics material and has an evacuation port 23 and a bushed electrical connection at 24. The pipes 6, 7 and 10, 11 are welded in the wall of the container or are isolated in a glass seal. The unit forms a flush mounting in the wall 20 of a refrigerator. The vessel 3 acts as a condenser and the vessel 4 acts as an evaporator of a circulating heat exchanging fluid.
