Abstract

1,151,856. Spray-producers. SAMUEL JONES & CO. (ENG.) Ltd. 8 Aug., 1966 [19 Aug., 1965], No. 35598/65. Heading B2F. A fire extinguisher nozzle comprises a tubular body 1 provided with a valve seat 4, a sleeve 9 surrounding the body 1, and a nylon valve member 5 having a tubular extension which is formed at its downstream end with a jet orifice 17, the arrangement being such that rotation of the sleeve 9 causes the valve 5 to move axially away from its seat 4 into a position in which liquid is discharged as a spray between the sleeve and the tubular extension, and further rotation of the sleeve, Fig. 3 (not shown) allows liquid to enter radial ports ,15 whereby it is discharged through the orifice 17 as a central jet. The valve is prevented from rotating by a pin and slot device 8 and a pair of spaced sealing rings 6, 7 on the valve cooperate with the body 1 to prevent leakage and control the liquid flow when the valve is adjusted in position. When the valve is moved downstream of the Fig. 3 (not shown) position in which a spray is discharged coaxially with a jet, a jet only is discharged, Fig. 4 (not shown). In the modification of Fig. 5 (not shown), the nozzle is adapted to discharge either a jet or a spray.
