In a solid hot plate unit for a gas stove, of the kind described in the Parent Specification 1,151,851, the flame from the gas burner 11<SP>1</SP> is directed against a target plate 13<SP>1</SP> which is inclined upwardly away from the burners arranged across the front of the unit. The target plate may be of expanded metal, or of cast iron, ribbed to give a profile resembling that of expanded metal.
