Abstract

1,151,616. Gas and steam turbine plant. C.A. PARSONS & CO. Ltd. April 3, 1968 [April 13, 19671, No. 16997/67. Headings F1G and F1Q. The invention relates to a power plant comprising an assembly of a gas turbine plant and a steam turbine plant. In the embodiment shown the plant comprises an air compressor 1, combustion equipment 2 and a turbine 3 driving the compressor. The gases from the turbine 3 are reheated in reheat combustion chamber 4 and then pass to a useful power turbine 5 which drives a generator 8, the gases from turbine 5 passing to a steam generator 6. The steam from the steam generator 6 is passed through the reheat chamber 4 where it is heated indirectly becoming super-heated, the super-heated steam passing to a steam turbine 7 which is connected to drive the generator 8. The exhaust steam from the turbine or a portion only thereof is passed into the reheat chamber 4 to mix with the combustion gases therein. A throttle means 10 is located at the compressor inlet to throttle the gas flow; the throttle means may be located at another point downstream of the outlet of the first gas turbine. The throttle means is utilized at starting since at this phase of operation there would be no steam for admixture with the combustion gases in the reheat chamber 4 and the turbine 5 would offer too great a flow area.
