Abstract
1,225,759. Gas turbine type gas generators. C.A.V. Ltd. Sept.24, 1968 [Oct.5, 1967], No.45458/67. Heading F1G. The invention relates to a hot gas generator which comprises a first compressor, a second compressor, a combustion chamber and a turbine, the first compressor supplying an air/fuel mixture to a burner disposed within the combustion chamber, the second compressor supplying dilution fluid to the combustion chamber, combustion gases from the combustion chamber being directed on to the turbine which is connected to drive the first and second compressors, exhaust gases from the turbine passing to a point of use. In accordance with the invention a portion of the exhaust gases from the turbine are passed back to the inlet of the first compressor thereby reducing the combustion temperature. In the plant shown, the first compressor rotor 16 and the second compressor rotor 17 are mounted at one end of a shaft 11 and the turbine rotor 12 is mounted at the other end of the shaft. An air and fuel mixture is supplied to the inlet 22 of the first compressor 16 and the mixture is delivered by the compressor through duct 31 to the burner 29 mounted within the combustion chamber 24. The second compressor 17 supplies dilution air through duct 29a to the combustion chamber. Combustion gases pass to the turbine 12 which drives the two compressors, the exhaust gases then passing to a point of use. A portion of the turbine exhaust gases are passed through line 35 to the inlet 22 of the first compressor 16, the flow being controllable by valve 36.
