Abstract

1,151,319. Wells. VENTURA TOOL CO. 12 Oct., 1967 [28 Dec., 1966], No. 46555/67. Heading E1F. A hanger seat 17 for an inner well casing is fitted in a groove 23 in a casing hanger 12 e.g. on the sea bed. The hanger seat is in the form of a split ring which is slid down the riser K and expands into the groove 23. The seat 17 has a recessed top 40 which is secured to an adapter 39 by shear screws in holes 41 on the adapter. The adapter and seat are lowered down the riser on a string M and running tool 30. The tool 30 contains a piston 51 carrying a bore cleaning tool 60 and a plate 49. Before the seat 17 reaches the recess 23, a ball 70 is dropped down the string M to close the central bore of the piston. Hydraulic pressure in the pipe string M can then be used to depress the piston so that the plate 49 presses on the seat to shear the holding screws. The seat can then be pushed to the recess 23.
