Abstract

1,151,071. Coating carbon articles. METALURGITCHEN ZAVOD "LENIN". 24 March, 1966 [29 March, 1965], No. 13092/66. Heading B2K. Carbon articles, e.g. graphite electrodes for an electric arc furnace, are coated by, e.g. spraying, with aluminium and on other material, and then heating with an electric arc between the article and an electrode, whilst [maintaining relative movement between the arc and the article. In an example Ag and Al are sprayed on the carbon article, followed by a layer of the following composition:- Al 25g., silicon carbide 30g., titanium dioxide 15g., boric acid 10g., and barium peroxide 10g., the whole being dried and then heated with an electric arc. A further layer of Ag and A1 may be applied by spraying and the whole coated with a lead glaze comprising lead oxide 85%, diboric trioxide 10%, and silicon dioxide 5. The article is finally heated to 500‹C. In other examples Al and Sn are coated with Al, titanium dioxide and graphite; and Al and Ni are coated with Al, titanium dioxide, silicon carbide, boric acid and Cr, followed by coatings of Al, Cu, and steel, and Cu, graphite and barium peroxide. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1,026,055.
