Abstract

115,077. Haigh, A., and Bridge, R. April 24, 1917. India - rubber, calendering. - Guide devices for calenders adjustable laterally to the required width are arranged to conform to the peripheral surfaces of the rollers for all variations of thickness of nip of the rollers. In the construction shown the adjustment to the peripheral surfaces is automatically made simultaneously with the adjustment of nip. The guides comprise three principal parts, viz., two separate plates g with curved inner edges h and a wedge-shaped portion i movable between the diverging edges of the plates g to adjust the edges h. The guides are carried on a shaft b and the wedges i are moved by pinions p engaging racks or plates k bolted to the wedges, the pinions being keyed on a shaft q actuated through worm-gear t from a flexible shaft u connected to the operating-mechanism for adjusting the movable rollers.
