Abstract
1,149,378. Gas burners; spark ignition. HOPE'S HEATING & ENG. Ltd. 17 Jan., 1967 [17 Jan., 1966], No. 2023/66. Headings F4F and F4T. A gas burner comprises combustion chamber 12 supplied with fuel gas and air through nozzle plate 13, fuel gas being supplied to the plate through a pair of pipes 16 from a manifold 14 and air from a rectangular section gallery 11 through nozzles (18), Fig. 2 (not shown) which surround the outlets of pipes 16, the opening through plate 13 on pilot burner 21 comprising a combustion chamber 22, gas supply pipe 25, air inlet apertures 24 and a spark plug 23. An ultra-violet cell mounted on plate 26 may be used to detect the pilot and main burner flames through one of the air nozzles (18). In an alternative embodiment, of Fig. 3 (not shown), the spark plug and gas supply pipe of the pilot burner pass through the adjacent wall of sleeve 10 forming gallery 11. In a further alternative embodiment, Fig. 4 the air supply to the pilot burner air inlet apertures is controlled by an apertured sleeve 39 a sparking electrode 49 passes through the gas supply pipe 42 and a perforated flame stabilizer 44 is inserted in the end of the pilot burner combustion chamber.
