Abstract

1,148,375. Centrifugal pumps. DOWTY FUEL SYSTEMS Ltd. Dec. 20, 1966 [ Sept. 21, 1965], No.40167/65. Heading F1C. In a pump assembly, a motor 12, Fig. 2, drives a centrifugal pump 16 through shafts 13, 15 and a step-up gear-box 14. The pump and the gear-box output shaft are arranged at one side of pedestal 11 to facilitate access to the pump. There may be two or more pumps driven through one or more gear trains in the gear-box. The pumps may be connected in series. Impellers 25, 26, Fig. 3, and a shaft sealing ring 37 with its spring loading means, may be removed for inspection and maintenence after removal of a top cover 28 and a bolt 39. The pump inlet communicates with the impellers via annular chamber 34, opening 40 and domeshaped chamber 33. A low pressure pump (54), Fig. 4 (not shown), in the gear-box distributes lubricant drawn from the bottom of the gear-box.
