Abstract
1,147,780. Spray carburetters. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Feb. 1, 1968 [Feb.6, 1967], No.5117/68. Heading F1B. In a carburetter having a fuel passage 38, 46 leading from the fuel source 16 to the induction passage 22 downstream of the throttle 28, a valve member 48 controlling flow through the fuel passage is biased towards reducing fuel flow by a spring-loaded lever 60 and a lever 62 is arranged to prevent the spring-loaded lever from acting on the valve member at cold starting. A thermally responsive element (86), Fig. 2 (not shown), is connected to the shaft 64 of the lever 62 and at cold starting causes the lever 62 to engage the lever 60 and prevent its spring-loading from acting on the valve diaphragm 48 through the member 52 to reduce fuel flow. The lever 62 has a link 66 engaged in a slot (68, Fig. 2), in a lever 70. The lever 70 has a step 84 engaged by a projection 78 on the throttle lever 74 when the throttle 28 is moved towards its open position. When the throttle is opened widely the lever 70 is rotated by the lever 74 and the link 66 actuates the lever 62 to move it out of engagement with the lever 60, thereby allowing the spring-loading to act on the valve diaphragm 48. The thermally responsive element may be used to position the choke 26 for cold starting.
