Abstract
1,143,292. Electron beam deflecting apparatus; permanent magnets. ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS Inc. 18 May, 1966 [19 May, 1965], No. 22198/66. Headings H1D and H1P. A magnetic beam correction device in particular for the lateral shift of the blue beam in a three-beam colour television tube comprises a pair of ring magnets 160, 162 magnetized as shown. The magnets are mounted on a non- magnetic cylinder 39 by means of support rings 108, 110 and the support rings are provided with gear segments 124, 126 so that the ring magnets can be rotated together equally in opposite directions to a limited extent by means of a common pinion 170. The cylinder 39 is eccentric to a body portion 28 which seats on the neck of the tube. The body 28 has projections provided with arcuate flexible flanges 36 which carry at their outer ends pressure pads for gripping the tube neck. A pair of colour purity magnets 68, 70 is slipped over the rear portion of the body 28 and the assembly is held in position by means of the resilient locking ring 78 and a clamp 86 which act on the pressure pads at the ends of the flexible flanges 36: The pinion 170 for operating the blue shift magnets 160, 162 is supported by the bracket 54 and held in place by a retaining spring 180. The spring 180 has an extension 184 for forcing the gear segments 124, 126 into positive engagement with the pinion 170 and legs 190 for bearing down on the pinion. The support rings 108, 110 for the lateral shift magnets 160, 162 have arcuate projections 132, 134, 136, 138 for bayonet type engagement with flanges 50, 52 of the cylinder 39.
