Abstract

1,141,993. Bolt-hole bushes. A. GERHARD. 3 Feb., 1966 [3 Feb., 1965; 15 Jan., 1966], No. 4794/66. Heading F2H. An expandable fastener connecting window- and door-frames to masonry comprises a sleeve 6, e.g. of steel, surrounding a bolt 1 and extending from the head 2 thereof to a nut 3, e.g. of light alloy or plastics, having a cylindrical portion 4 and a conical portion 5. Slots 7-9 formed in the lower end of the sleeve enables the latter to expand into contact with the wall of the bore 13 when the nut moves upwardly. The head 2 is larger in diameter than sleeve 6 and the latter is larger in diameter than nut 3. The space 14 between frame 11 and masonry 13 is filled with grouting. In Figs. 3 and 4, not shown, the nut is provided with slots (27) in conical portion (25) and aligned grooves in the cylindrical portion (24), the bore (26) in the nut tapering at (28) so that the thread ends at (29). In Fig. 5, not shown, a slot (31) extends the whole length of the sleeve and the end of the latter is conical. In Figs. 8 and 9, not shown, the nut is slotted as at (13, 14) and closed at its outer end by a cylinder (15).
