Abstract
1,141,352. Sulphur containing polyamides. T. GABRIS. 8 July, 1966 [9 July, 1965], No. 29276/65. Heading C3R. Polyamides containing chemically combined sulphur are prepared by copolymerizing a polymerized polyunsaturated fatty acid, or an ester thereof, a polyamine and sulphur or an organic compound containing divalent sulphur. The fatty acid may be a C 18 acid and when polymerized may comprise a major portion of dimer. The polyamine may be a diprimary amine, e.g. ethylene diamine, a homologue thereof or diethylene triamine, or a monoprimary, monosecondary amine. The sulphurcontaining compound may be alpha - (p - aminophenyl) - alpha - mercaptoacetic acid, or HO-(CH 2 ) 2 -S-(CH 2 ) 2 -OH. 1À5 wt. per cent or more of sulphur compound or about 3 wt. per cent of sulphur may be used. The reaction may be carried out in the presence of a chain terminating agent, e.g. oleic acid, linoleic acid, linolenic acid or a primary amine; a linear dicarboxylic acid, e.g. azelaic acid and an amino-acid. The products are fibre-forming.
