Abstract

1,136,250. Polyamides. VICTOR WOLF Ltd. 21 Nov., 1967 [12 Jan., 1967], No. 1708/67. Heading C3R. Polyamides are prepared by reacting (1) a polyamide formed by reaction of a dimer acid with at least one polyamine and lesser amounts of monomeric or short chain dibasic acids, with (2) at least one polyamide formed from omega amino carboxylic acids or the cyclic lactams derived therefrom, at elevated temperature (e.g. 250-350‹ C.) when an amide interchange reaction takes place to produce a uniform composition. Polyamide (2) which may comprise 1 to 60% of the total may be prepared from an #-aminocarboxylic acid or cyclic lactam containing 6 to 18 carbon atoms. Reaction may take place from to 6 hours, and may be carried out in an inert atmosphere. The dimer acid used in the examples contains 68À5% dimerized linoleic acid, the remainder being more highly polymerized or monomeric acids.
