Abstract

1,140,259. Piston rings. KRAFTFAHRZEUGZUBEHOERWERKE DRESDEN VEB. 27 Sept., 1966, No. 42981/66. Heading F2T. A piston ring assembly comprises two pairs of rings arranged in a piston groove so that one pair engages the bottom of the groove and the other pair engages the cylinder wall, each pair consisting of similar rings 1, Fig. 1, placed one on top of the other so that a flange 2 on each ring covers the gap 4 in the ring paired therewith. The flange 2 extends to the full height of the ring and tapers in the circumferential direction. The ends 5 each side of the gap lie against the inside surface 3 of the flange. Alternatively each pair of rings may consist of similar rings (11, Fig. 3, not shown) having a flange (21) which extends across the full width of the ring and has end surfaces (31) of straight, curved or tangential form for co-operating with the end surfaces (61) each side of the gap in the ring paired therewith. In another embodiment, six pairs of such rings are mounted in a single groove.
