Abstract

1,139,972. Ventilating fume cupboards. BAIRD & TATLOCK (LONDON) Ltd. 22 Feb., 1967 [18 Jan., 1966], No. 2332/66. Headings F4V and F4X. Two gas streams A, B, are provided in a fume cupboard, the lower one entraining some atmospheric air through a sash window opening 6, the upper one sweeping the upper part of the cupboard. Gas is exhausted by means of a perforated box 19 at the rear connected to an extractor fan. Various arrangements of slots, baffles and deflectors for the input streams are described with reference to Figs. 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 (not shown). An electrical switch may be coupled to a flap in the outlet 8 to de-energize a fan supplying inlet 7 when the outflow of gas falls below a predetermined level. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 10, not shown) the gas streams are provided from annular openings in a hood which may be movably mounted on a central perforated exhaust tube. Preferred dimensions and flow rates are given.
