Abstract

1,138,327. Seats. AMERICAN METAL PRODUCTS CO. 21 June, 1966 [21 June, 1965], No. 27597/66. Heading A4J. The moment exerted on a reclining and platform rocking chair to rock it about axis 5, in the upright position, is transmitted, by link 48 or a latch (78, Fig. 18, not shown), to rockable base 4, so that the chair can be rocked without altering its disposition. As soon, however as it has been moved, by rearward pressure on backrest 9, into one of the reclined positions, roller 54a is brought into contact with rail 55, fixed to platform 1, to terminate rocking action. Link 48 is simultaneously moved into an horizontal position, in which it is ineffective to transmit vertical thrust, or latch (78) is released. In the transition from the semi-reclined to the fully reclined position, the angle between the seat frame and back-rest is increased, to displace arm (58) forwardly, thus turning link 60 about pivot (66) to raise the front of the seat and to tension return spring (63). Leg rest 28, 29 does not fully participate in this movement, but is kept horizontal by link (42) turning about pivot 16. A modified rocking means (Fig. 19, not shown) is described.
