' A pocket umbrella frame comprises a telescopic stick 1, 2, 3, three part telescopic spokes 6, 7, 8 with heads 35 at the outer ends, a main slider 12 mounted on the stick, main struts 13 pivoted at one end to the main slider and at their other end to the inner ends of the middle parts of the spokes, locks between the middle: and outer parts of the spokes which are automatically engaged when the spokes are extended and which are disengaged, by the section of the inner spoke parts, when the spokes are telescoped together again, and a grip 5 at the lower end of the stick which contains a positively acting catch for locking the heads of the spokes within the grip while the umbrella stick is extended, the grip also having a manually operated mechanism for releasing the catch and freeing the heads of the spokes when the umbrella is to be opened, and the catch allowing the heads of the spokes to re-enter the grip when the umbrella is telescoped and the positive action of the catch locking the spoke heads in the grip as soon as they have re-entered the grip. Suitably the catch mechanism for releasing the spokes comprises an annular collar having a projection for engaging the spokes behind their heads and a spring loaded ring which engages and holds the spoke heads against the collar, the arrangement being such that the locking ring may slide axially with respect to the stick, being urged into the locked position by the spring loading, the catch release mechanism being operated by a push button mounted in the end of the umbrella grip to retract the locking ring against the spring loading, or alternatively, that the locking ring is a spring ring which is arranged so that it can expand or contract radially.
