[Also in Division A4] A pen desk set comprises a pen 11 with a capillary nib 38 and a capillary ink-reservoir element 45, and an ink container 10 with a fibrous transfer element 30 therein, the arrangement being such that when the pen is inserted into the container 10 with the nib 38 in contact with the element 30, ink passes by capillary action from the container by way of the parts 30, 38 to the reservoir element 45. The container 10 has a glass base 12 with a resting pad 13, and a bowl-shaped part 18 of plastic with a threaded liner 19 engaging threads on the neck 14 of the base 12, gaskets 22, 23 being seated above the neck 14. The transfer element 30 consists of bonded cellulose acetate fibres, is cylindrical, and has a diameter less than the inside diameter of the neck 14 so that the inside of the container is vented. Resting on the element 30 is a rectangular strip 31 of felted synthetic fibres such as nylon. A cap 25 to the bowl 18 has an aperture 27 for inserting the pen point when the pen is not in use and so that the nib 38 rests upon the strip and the reservoir element 45 is replenished with ink. The nib 38 is formed of bonded nylon fibres and passes through a bush 36. Extending inwardly from a reduced part 40 of the bush 36 are two flat strips 42 situated on opposite sides of the nib 38 and terminating in a V-part 43. The parts 42, 43 pierce the reservoir element 45 which is made of relatively soft material, e.g. of aggregated cellulose acetate fibres. A vent 46 is provided in the barrel part 35. The lengths of the nib 38 and reservoir element 45 are inversely proportional to the surface tension of the ink employed.
