Abstract

1,130,544. Typewriters. OKI ELECTRIC INDUSTRY CO. Ltd. 3 Nov., 1965 [25 Nov., 1964; 26 Dec., 1964], No. 19455/68. Divided out of 1,130,543. Heading B6F. General.-A typewriter has a detachable unitary ribbon feed mechanism comprising a pair of ribbon spools 32 (34), a feed mechanism including both automatic and manual means for reversing the direction of feed. Ink-ribbon feed mechanism.-The ink-ribbon 31, Fig. 2 (not shown), is driven, according to which spool is winding, by pawl 37, 38 actuated by cam lever 56 and a cam 54 axially slidable on a rotating shaft 7. Pawls 60, 61 are detents to prevent reverse movement of ratchets 39, 40. Ribbon-reversing automatic.-Only one pawl 37 or 38 engages the ratchets 39, 40 at one time according to the position of a lever 33 having two cam surfaces 35, 36 which move one or the other pawls 37, 38 away from the ratchet teeth. Lever 33 is pivoted to two levers 45, 53 which are controlled by forks 43, 52 pivoted by a button on each end of the ribbon. When a button moves fork 43, or 52, either lever 45 engages the upper surface or lever 53 engages the underside of a cam rocked plate 46. This either raises or lowers the lever 33 which, by means of its surfaces 35, 36, sets the pawls 37, 38. Ribbon-reversing manual.-A lever 33 can alter the lever 34 directly, see Fig. 5 (not shown).
