Abstract

1,128,230. Perineal bath. AMERICAN RADIATOR & STANDARD SANITARY CORP. 21 Oct. , 1966 [23 Oct., 1965], No. 47378/66. Heading A4N. A perineal bath comprises a chair-like water receptacle 10, having a dish-shaped bottom wall 12, a back wall 14, and two side walls 16 and 18, all of which have smoothly curved junctures devoid of germ-collecting crevices; a water inlet 34 discharging into the bath through an upper portion of one of the side walls 16; a system of grooves for carrying the water from the inlet 34 to the outlet 46 under gravitation when the user sits in the bath, consisting of a groove 40 leading downwards in the side wall 16 connected to a lateral groove 42 in the upper surface of the bottom wall 12 and a groove 44 in the bottom wall directed rearwards along the centre line to the outlet 46 located near the juncture of bottom wall 12 and back wall 14. Fig. 1 is a sectional view of the bath and Fig. 2 is a top plan view. The groove 44 preferably narrows as it proceeds from the front to the back of the bath to support the patient: the back wall 14 preferably has a groove extending upwards in the centre to take the patient's spine in comfort, and the outlet opening 46 may be provided with a hollow water overflow element 48 which maintains a pool of water in the groove 44 at a predetermined height. The bottom wall 12 has a lip 32 which contains the water in the bath and permits the user to sit with weight thrown back on walls 12 and 14. The water inlet includes a deflector 36 for directing the water into groove 40 without splashing. The walls may be provided with hollow tubular reinforcing edges as at 23.
